In 1965, there were around 1000 cinemas in Australia. Although Australian television shows were enjoyable for Australians, the cinema did not have such luck. It was mostly American and British films that were screened because of the lack of Australian made films. Because the 1960's was a decade of social and political change, often films reflected this. Sundance Kid and Easy rider, which were both shown in 1969, echoed the social changes of that decade. Although this era is one of the most influential in history, it is widely considered to be a low point in Australian film making. Towards the end of the 1960's ballet, theatre, and opera became more popular, though it was still only a minor form of entertainment.
